Kilchoman Machir Bay 46%
The Kilchoman distillery is located on the western coast of the island of Islay, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, near Machir Bay. Founded in 2005 by Anthony Wills, it was the first new distillery built on the island in more than 120 years, marking a return to the tradition of small Scottish “farm distilleries". Machir Bay is a picturesque sandy beach on the island of Islay, directly facing Kilchoman Church. The Kilchoman Machir Bay 46% is matured in a mix of casks composed of 90% ex-bourbon barrels and 10% ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The combination of these casks gives this single malt a good level of complexity, with a balance of sweetness, tropical fruit, peat smoke, and vanilla.
Nose: Clean peat, lemon, orange, vanilla, and biscuit, with a light maritime note and white pepper.
Palate: Peat smoke, sweet malt, vanilla, ripe citrus, and a touch of caramel and spice.
Finish: Medium, smoky and dry, with returning citrus notes, pepper, and a light salinity.
